Galway Arts Festival Documentary
Produced and directed by Dermot Tynan. Photography by Richard Tisdall. Interviews and research by Eithne Tynan. Edited by George Kingsnorth and Dermot Tynan.
Every summer, two weeks before race week, the city of Galway is home to an international arts festival. Lunacy and frivolity abound. The festival is twelve days long, and always promises an exciting line-up of music, theatre and street-entertainment.
This half-hour documentary looks at the history of the festival, the performers and performances which make the festival what it is, and examines what the Arts Festival means to Galway. The programme features interviews with Michael Nyman (The Piano), Marianne Sagebrecht (Baghdad Cafe), Liam O’Maonlai (Hothouse Flowers), Penny Arcade (Bitch, Dyke, Faghag, Whore) and others.
